Resource Development

… A leader of a nonprofit organization is a person who marshals the people, capital, and intellectual resources of the organization to move it in the right direction.
-- Burt Nanus & Stephen M. Dobbs
Resource development involves all those interactions and communications which cultivate, solicit, maintain, and track the resources necessary for fulfilling an organization’s mission. It is how the organization supports the program it offers and advances itself in order to pursue new opportunities. Components of a comprehensive development function include: annual fundraising, special appeals, and planned giving as well as intentional relations with donors, volunteers, referral sources, relevant communities, and the general public.
OD180 assists nonprofit organizations with resource development in two fundamental ways. By way of assessment and planning services, it helps organization leaders understand the strengths and weaknesses of their current development practices and then design a blueprint for enhancing the function. It also analyzes donor/member relations programs and helps organizations build loyalty and involvement.
